The Possum is a unique trail night run taking place on 14 June 2025 at the Wairakei Resort in Taupō, coinciding with the winter solstice. This event features a course that traverses the scenic Wairakei Resort, Craters Mountain Bike Park, and the Craters of the Moon Geothermal Walkway, providing participants with the opportunity to experience these landscapes under the cover of darkness.
The trails are characterized by varied terrain, including undulating paths, gullies, ridges, and bridges, all enhanced by the geothermal activity of the area, which creates a distinctive atmosphere with visible steam rising from the ground. Reflective course markings and marshals positioned at key points ensure that participants can navigate safely while receiving support throughout the event.
Post-race amenities include a dinner menu offered by the Wairakei Resort and access to a geothermal hot pool, allowing participants to unwind and relax after the run.
