The Ben Lomond Vertical Kilometre is scheduled for 14 February 2025, set in the scenic region near Moke Lake, New Zealand. This event is notable for being the country’s only certified Vertical Kilometre, featuring a challenging ascent of 1200 meters over a distance of 3.9 kilometers to the summit of Ben Lomond.
The course begins near the Ben Lomond Woolshed and traverses an off-track terrain, which requires participants to possess good footwork, balance, and strength; the use of poles is permitted. As an uphill-only race, all competitors are required to plan for their descent from the summit, with the official route to be confirmed prior to the event.
This race takes place the day before the renowned Shotover Moonlight Marathon, further enhancing its significance within the local running calendar. Participants can expect a unique and demanding experience, complemented by the stunning views offered throughout the course.
