The Kepler Challenge and the Luxmore Grunt are annual running events taking place on December 7, 2024, along the 60km Kepler Track circuit in Fiordland National Park, New Zealand. The event begins at the Control Gates of Lake Te Anau, featuring a gradual first 6km before ascending to the Luxmore Hut. Runners experience stunning views of the South Fiord during the next 12km, characterized by undulating terrain. Following this, participants descend to the Iris Burn Hut and traverse a gradual 17km journey down the Iris Burn to Moturau Hut on Lake Manapouri. The course concludes with a 6km segment to the last checkpoint at Rainbow Reach, followed by a scenic finish alongside the Waiau River back to the Control Gates.
The Luxmore Grunt shares the initial route to the Luxmore Hut and then returns to the start point, providing a unique experience for participants. Both events have a limited number of entries, which typically sell out quickly upon opening. The setting offers a combination of natural beauty and challenging terrain, making this race a significant event in the New Zealand running calendar. Post-race amenities include local refreshments and facilities for participants.
